A Novel Connected to HANRORO’s Third EP of the Same Name
Jamong Salgu Club is a novel by singer-songwriter HANRORO, created in connection with her third EP of the same name. The Korean title uses the words jamong (grapefruit) and salgu (apricot) as a deliberate form of wordplay, softening and indirectly expressing the story’s darker themes.
The novel follows Soha, Taesu, Yumin, and Bohyeon, four young people struggling with the desire to give up on life. They meet through a secret club called the “Jamong Salgu Club” and make a promise to help one another survive.
Through their stories, HANRORO confronts the harsh realities faced by children and young people, portraying wounds that can be inflicted during the years that should have been their most innocent. The novel expands upon themes that could not be fully explored within the approximately 20-minute music album.
